Thank you, Barbara Winter
Barbara Winter was the person who inspired me to finally quit my job (which I loathed) and start thinking about setting up my very own business. And yes, I did it in that order!
My mum gave me my first copy of Barbara’s book, Making a Living Without a Job, and since then I have given copies or recommended it to dozens of people. As soon as I’d read it, I handed in my notice at work and set about finding multiple sources of income to sustain me whilst I figured out what to do with myself. Rather magically, a friend offered me part time work at a plant nursery the following week, and I managed to get another part time job in a local shop. So that was two sources of income straight away!
After six months of getting my head together I decided to move to Bristol and become properly self-employed. I didn’t really have much of a clue what services I was going to offer but I thought I’d just do whatever people wanted whilst I figured it out. I always kept Barbara’s advice in my head, though and it kept me afloat whilst I established my main business.
Fast forward to now, and I’m still well and truly attached to not putting all my eggs in one basket, which is why I’m currently working on multiple businesses at the moment; as well as a couple of personal projects which may well turn into profit centres in the future.
Thank you so very much, Barbara Winter, for putting me on the path that leads to my dream life. I’m not quite there yet but it’s oh so close, thanks to you.

What a lovely response!
The lovely Barbara was not only kind enough to mention my little project on her Facebook page:
But she sent me a beautiful hand-written thank you card as well:
I couldn’t have dreamed of a nicer outcome! Thank you again, Barbara!
