Thank you, Brene Brown

Brene Brown

I first discovered Brené Brown during a very difficult time of my life: I was homeless, my business was floundering, my self-confidence was practically non-existent and I had no idea what was going to happen next in my life. I felt utterly lost.

I found one of Brené’s TED talks via one of the gazillion blogs I follow and her warmth, humour and honesty had me in floods of tears. I felt like she was speaking directly to me. Immediately, I bought all of her books and devoured them over the course of a weekend. I had never really understood my feeling of unworthiness and had spent my life battling to try and keep the ‘secret real me’ hidden, and to only ever present the socially acceptable version of myself to the world. Brené’s incredible books made me feel like I was no longer alone – in fact, the title of her first book I thought it was just me (but it isn’t) kinda says it all! Without her, I don’t know if I would ever have found the courage to become my true authentic self.

Thank you, Brené Brown, for having the courage to bring secret shame out into the open and for helping me to realise that I don’t have to hide who I really am. The relief is immense!

Very interesting, this is the 2nd time in 2 days that I was pushed (gently) to her way! Guess she’s a lesson for me to learn!

I discovered Brene recently and her theory of shame is spot on.

Dear Eli, I am also a huge fan of Brene Brown! We actually look a lot alike in real life – when she was on OWN recently, a friend called me and said, ‘Girl, you shoulda TOLD me you were gonna be on TV.’ HA!
Also I clicked through and browsed your gorgeous art, and even joined Red Bubble. I’d been searching for a place online just like that, so thanks. This will be fun! Signed… a fellow misfit *wink*
PS… No clue now how I initially found you online, B School maybe???
